Varde 1945: Paul Metzger had been wounded on the Eastern Front and taken to the hospital in Oksbøl. From here he managed to run away and make contact with the resistance movement. Harry Fenger, who owned a menswear store in Varde, housed Metzger until the liberation.

The ice age steppes 14,000 years ago: The ice age has reached its end, and the reindeer have been attracted to the vast tundra, where new life is sprouting. Humans soon follow, and Ayla and her family are among the first to come to the new land that will one day become Denmark.

Dokkerland, approx. 3500 BCE: Man has collected amber on the West Coast for all time. On the beach you may be lucky to find amulets from the Stone Age. They wash ashore after a storm, and they originate from settlements that were located where the North Sea is today. Here we meet a Stone Age girl hunting for amber at the water's edge.

Vejers 1844: One evening, just before bedtime, the brothers Hans and Bakken went to the beach. Suddenly they saw something moving in the surf. The terrified boys hurried home. Their father "reassured" them that it must have been a drowned sailor.
