After the war
How do you move on after a war? Or… How do you erase the traces of war? From May 2025, Tirpitz marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Denmark with the opening of the special exhibition After the War.
The exhibition takes you back to a time when the traces of the Second World War had to be removed as far as possible and life had to be slowly rebuilt.

Visualisation of the exhibition
In the exhibition, you enter the construction site at Tirpitz in January 1945, when the cannon battery was still under construction.
Here you meet a number of Danes working for the Germans. Under the surface, the resistance against the Germans and the Danish traitors has really flared up, while liberation is fast approaching. After 5 years of occupation, Denmark is free again. But after the war, a whole new set of challenges arise. How do you actually erase the traces of a war?

In the exhibition, you can explore the various post-war issues: What should happen to the bombastic bunkers? Who should be punished for treason and how do you remove 1.4 million mines?
The exhibition paints a picture of the aftermath of the war and draws lines up to today’s conflicts with perspectives on how the aftermath of a war affects generations to come.
